Hawkeye fans can get excited about our next match, as 2018 commit Tony Cassioppi will be making his Carver-Hawkeye debut at the Night of Conflict presented by Rudis. The nation’s #3 ranked heavyweight, Cassioppi will be taking on a top ten opponent, #7 Ronald Tucker.

Hailing from Honoegah,Illinois, Cassioppi is coming off a banner junior campaign that saw him nab the triple crown (USA Wrestling’s folkstyle, freestyle, and Greco-Roman national champion), win his first ever state title, and he was also the Junior Pan-American champion in freestyle and Greco-Roman. Originally a Northwestern commit, Cassioppi’s flip to the Hawkeyes was the big recruiting scoop of the summer landing the Hawks a top 30 commitment in the class of 2018 to go along with Nelson Brands.

His opponent, Tucker also hails from the state of Illinois competing for Lockport high school. Had everything gone right for Tucker in 2017 he might have met Cassioppi at the state tournament, but he suffered a surprising loss in the semifinals preventing us from getting that matchup. Tucker did not compete at Fargo this summer, but in 2016 he was a freestyle and Greco-Roman All-American for Team Illinois. Tucker is also the second wrestler from Lockport high school at the Night of Conflict, joining Matt Ramos, who will be facing Caleb Rathjen in a lightweight contest.
