Last year when the Night of Conflict was introduced, the IAwrestle team wanted the event to be as unique as possible. Not only is the Night of Conflict the only high school wrestling dual in Carver-Hawkeye Arena and not only is the Night of Conflict one of the first events to institute a pushout rule in a folkstyle event, but it’s also one of the few places fans can come to see a marquee high school women’s match. Luckily the state of Iowa is starting to produce more and more talented women worthy of the spotlight.

It wasn’t easy this year, as the state had several talented women to choose from, but we are happy to announce that Norwalk’s Alanah Vetterick will take to the mat in a match featuring Cadet World Champion Ronna Heaton of South Dakota.

Vetterick has always been a tough customer on the mat going back to her youth days when she was fourth at Corn Cob Nationals in 2012. Vetterick has continued to be a force on the national scene, finishing runner-up on three occasions at USA Wrestling Folkstyle Nationals. This summer she was also a fifth place All-American at the Women’s Junior Freestyle Nationals. She is no stranger to Carver either, having won the Conflict at Carver’s 2014 bracket.

On the other side of the line will be Heaton, who is pretty well known after winning her 2015 Cadet World title. As a World champion in freestyle obviously the pushout rule will be something that Heaton is very familiar with and she’ll know how to exploit.

Last year we saw the upset of all upsets when Rachel Watters was upended by Illinois prep Morgan Becker. Will “Carver magic” strike twice this time allowing an Iowa native to pick up a huge upset? We are excited to find out at #NOC2
