Max Lyon takes on AJ Pedro in ranked matchup

LYONPEDROThis next matchup features two ranked wrestlers looking to add another marquee win to their ever growing resumes. From Iowa it will be the #17 ranked Max Lyon of Western Dubuque, and he will be taking on the nation’s #15 ranked AJ Pedro of Massachusetts.

Lyon has made a fast rise to national prominence this summer in large part thanks to his win at Junior Freestyle Duals when he took out the current #3 ranked Jelani Embree of Michigan. While that may be the biggest victory of his high school career, Lyon has also finished runner-up at USA Wrestling Folkstyle nationals each of the last two years, and was fourth at the 2015 Northern Plains tournament. This past season Lyon was able to win his first state title for Western Dubuque, after taking second as a sophomore.

Pedro comes in from Exeter High School in Massachusetts where he has established himself as the #49 overall recruit in the class of 2017. In addition to winning a 2016 state title, Pedro was also fourth at last winter’s Beast of the East, and was sixth at Junior Freestyle Nationals in Fargo this summer.

ABOUT NIGHT OF CONFLICT:

The IA Wrestle Team is proud to announce that this October we will be hosting a premier wrestling event titled “The Night of Conflict 2”, and will pit some of the best talent that the country has to offer in a head-to-head battle for supremacy of each weight class. The event is scheduled for October 14, 2016 in Carver-Hawkeye Arena and it will take place the day before the preseason tournament, the Conflict at Carver, whose proceeds directly benefit the Hawkeye Wrestling Club. The dual will be broadcasted on FloWrestling.

Following weigh ins for the Conflict at Carver, wrestlers who have registered for the tournament will receive automatic admission into the Night of Conflict, free of charge. Tickets for the Night of Conflict will also be available for purchase at the door.
