Fort Dodge’s Drew Bennett announced today that he will join former teammate Triston Lara at the University of Northern Iowa.

The two-time state place-winner is considered one of the top lightweight recruits in the state for the class of 2018, and is rated the no. 11 wrestler in our latest Fab 50. Bennett was our second top uncommitted seniors in Iowa.

“The atmosphere at UNI was awesome, I can tell that it’s on the rise and I want to be a part of it. I felt at home at UNI and I loved how close the team is with one another. It reminded me a lot of the brotherhood that we have at Fort Dodge.” – Bennett
Drew picked Northern Iowa over Iowa, Iowa State, Northwestern and Oregon State.
Current light weights on Northern Iowa’s depth chart are Jay Schwarm (SO) and Tanner Rohweder (SO) at 125 pounds. At 133 is redshirt freshman Rudy Yates and sophomore Jack Wagner. Bennett plans to start at 133 pounds but will likely fill into 141 pounds
“Between now and college I need to focus a lot on finishing my shots, and being explosive on bottom and not getting rode out by anyone.”

Bennett joins a Panther recruiting class that gets more impressive by the day. Current members in UNI’s 2018 class are (Fab 50 Ranking) #4 Michael Blockhus, #7 Kyle Biscoglia, #10 Bryce Esmoil, #23 Gable Fox, #37John McConkey, and Noah Glasser.
