The Panthers rebounded nicely after dropping their first dual of the day to Arizona State with a 25-9 win over Oklahoma to take third place at the Virginia Duals.
The dual didn’t start off going UNI’s way though, Jay Schwarm and Jack Wagner both dropped decisions to put the Panthers in a 6-0 hole. The Panthers were able to take their first lead of the dual after three straight wins from Josh Alber, Max Thomsen, and Logan Ryan, all decision wins. Oklahoma’s Dawalyon Barnes tied things up again with a 3-2 win over Isaiah Patton, but Taylor Lujan would put the Panthers up for good.
Lujan came out strong against OU backup Jeremy Thomas, going up 17-4 before locking Thomas up for the pinfall win. Teammate Drew Foster backed that effort up with a 14-4 major decision win over Matt Waddell, and Jacob Holschlag and Carter Isley were able to close out the dual with two more decision victories.
UNI evened the all-time series with Oklahoma at 8-8 with the win tonight. The Panthers have as many duals left as they wrestled the last two days (4) and will next be in action next Sunday at South Dakota State.
