Hidlay poses outside Carver during his unofficial visit to Iowa

One of the nation’s top recruits in the class of 2018 has given a recruiting update this week on the Pennsylvania based podcast, PA Power Wrestling. Ranked #1 at 170 pounds by Flowrestling, Trent Hidlay of Mifflin County High School (PA) gave PA Power insight on how he plans to go about his recruiting process, and when he thinks he will make his college decision.

“It’s been really fun,” Hidlay said of the recruiting process, “I am trying not to stress about it too much just going through the process and having fun with it. You get to talk to a lot of coaches and visit a lot of programs. I think that’s really cool to see all the different programs and how they are run by different coaches.”

Of course one of those programs that Hidlay has been talking to is the University of Iowa, a school he visited in back in May. According to Hidlay, he visited multiple programs early on to get a feel for each team, and to help him determine which schools he plans on taking one of his five official visits to this fall.

“Early on I wanted to make sure if I had any interest in schools I wanted to see them,” Hidlay told PA Power, “So my parents and I got out to a lot of schools to see check them out and see what the program had to offer so that helps me a lot in deciding what officials I want to take and what schools I want to visit again.”

Hidlay also gave a timeline of when he would like to make a decision, and for Hawkeye fans that could mean some waiting.

“I am not ready to commit right now by any means. I am thinking maybe mid-October, early November I should know. I just want to take all my official (visits) and make sure I am finding the right fit for me.”

The Hawkeyes would appear to be in a good position to be on Hidlay’s list come time for official visits. During his unofficial visit Hidlay came away impressed by the team atmosphere and Iowa’s facilities.

“The relationship that coaches had with their wrestlers and the camaraderie that the guys on the team had,” Hidlay told IAwrestle back in May, “The wrestlers and coaches have a strong mutual respect for each other and it really stuck out to me. Carver-Hawkeye was awesome and the gym is incredible. The facilities are top notch.”
