Fargo Cadet Freestyle Final Results

While Team Iowa had a rough medal round in which their wrestlers went 3-6 – including two of those losses in the finals. Despite all that, Iowa put together a top five team finish by racking up 36 points.

The first Iowan in the finals, Alex Thomsen (120), put up a ton of points with his opponent Nick Raimo of New Jersey, but wound up on the wrong side of the score to lose 15-13. The match went back in forth with Raimo going up 4-0, but Thomsen was able to tie it with a double and leg lace, he then took the lead 6-4 on another turn. Raimo tied it with another takedown, and then scored a four point move with short time to go up 10-6 at the break. Thomsen answered early in the second with a roll with Raimo in the tripod position, but Raimo got another four pointer of his own off at Thomsen single leg attempt. Thomsen was highly aggressive in the match, but Raimo was able to capitalize on positioning to get the win.

Iowans other finalist, Marcus Coleman (160) also dropped his match to a New Jersey opponent Ryan Karoly, 9-6. It was disappointing to say the least, as Coleman had defeated Karoly 9-7 earlier this summer at the Cadet National Duals.

Kyle Biscoglia finished sixth at 100 pounds, which was his third straight loss after reaching the semifinals. Biscoglia took a 1-0 lead through the first, but Michael Colaiocco of New Jeresey was able to take the lead 2-1, and added another couple scores late in the match to win 6-3.

Aden Reeves finished off his double All-American performance by taking fourth at 106. The loss ended a five match winning streak for Reeves. Also having his five match win streak snapped in the third place match was Wyatt Wriedt (285).

Ben Sarasin (152) was the first Iowan to win a match in the medal round when he picked up a 17-5 technical fall over Pennsylvania’s Ty Bagoly in the fifth place match. Anthony Sherry (170) and Cooper Lawson (285) won their seventh place matches by fall and technical fall respectively.

Garrett Kubovec (195) fell victim to Danny Salas of California for the second time on the week – the first was earlier in the Greco-Roman tournament.
