With the War at West Gym now just a shade over two weeks away we are ready to announce three more matches that will take place in our event. Three more state champions have been added to the card including one bout that will pit two champs against one another for top bragging rights in the state at their weight class.
We’ve seen several talented wrestlers from the class of 2022 already be announced on the card, but we’ve decided to add one more in Mason City standout Jace Rhodes. A state runner-up at 106 pounds in Class 3A, Rhodes is one of many wrestlers in the 106 weight that looks to have a bright future. He will take on a talented sophomore hailing from Midland high school, Damon Huston. Hurston was third at 106 in Class 1A.
Central Springs state champion Zach Ryg has also been added to the card to face 3A state runner-up Brayden Wolf of Waverly-Shell Rock. These wrestlers finished third and fourth respectively in IAwrestle’s All-State team released earlier today.
That leaves our battle for the state’s top wrestler at 220 pounds when Cody Fisher of Woodward-Granger takes on Garrett Sims of Iowa Valley. The wrestlers finished first and second respectively on IAwrestle’s All-State team, which means this battle will be for who finishes the season on top.
About the War at West Gym:
IAwrestle is pleased to announce that our “War at West Gym” event will be returning to Cedar Falls on Saturday, March 16th. The event will once again be held in the University of Northern Iowa’s West Gym and will pit some of the state’s top talent against one another, as well as feature talented wrestlers from across the country.
Fans are able to purchase tickets at the door, but are encouraged to buy tickets in advance. Tickets can be purchased for $10 on Eventbrite.
VIP tickets for the event are also available for purchase by contacting Tony Hager (Email: iawrestlecontact@gmail.com). The VIP tickets provides fans the opportunity to sit matside to watch the action, putting them right on top of the action. VIP ticket price is $50, contact Hager for more details.
Group discount rates are also available for wrestling clubs, or large blocs of fans looking to attend the event. Contact iawrestlecontact@gmail.com for details.
For those unable to attend the dual a live stream will be available through Trackwrestling. For our Season Pass subscribers the “War at West Gym” event is already included in the $65 initial fee, but fans will also have the option to purchase the stream for a one time $10 fee.
