Alex Mackall is transferring from Rutgers to Iowa State! The Austintown, Ohio native was the 120-pound Ohio state champ in 2015 and was the No. 71 overall recruit in his class. He will be eligible to compete for Iowa State next season.— Iowa State Wrestling (@CycloneWR) January 10, 2018
An Ohio native, Mackal wrestling for Walsh Jesuit, home of the famous national regular season high school tournament, the Walsh Ironman. Mackall was a 2014 state champion and 2015 state runner-up per his Rutgers bio, and he finished his career ranked the #71 overall recruit according to InterMat. According to the team’s tweet, Mackall will not be eligible to compete this season, which will leave him to begin competing for the starting spot as a sophomore next season.
This will be a big boost for the Cyclones who lost two wrestlers from their roster at 125 pounds due to leaving the team, and a third wrestler Jakob Allison, was just confirmed yesterday as needing to miss four to six weeks with a broken hand.
