Iowa State’s Dante Rodriguez will be coming home from Akron, Ohio with at least one medal, after he racked up three technical falls to reach the 66 kg finals of the UWW University Nationals Greco-Roman tournament. It’s the first time we’ve seen Rodriguez take the mat since near the end of the 2016 season.

After picking up an opening round bye, Rodriguez came out to a controlled 10-0 win over David Prado of Northern Michigan. In his next match Rodriguez and his opponent, Jessy Williams of the New York RTC put up over 30 points, with Rodriguez coming out on top 21-11. In the semifinals Rodriguez posted a 9-0 win over Michigan Wrestling Club’s Chase Call to reach the tournament finals. There he was downed by Raymond Bunker of the Marines, 10-2.

Rodriguez will be back in action tomorrow, competing at 65 kg, along with 15 other Cyclones.
