There were 13 girls this past weekend who wrestled in the Class 1A and Class 2A Sectionals. Of those who wrestled, two will move on to District competition.

Four girls with Sectional wins are highlighted below.

Class 1A-Sectional 11

Felicity Taylor, a junior from South Winneshiek went 1-1 for the day at 106 pounds. In her first match, Taylor met Ethan Stubbs of MFL/MAR-MAC. This was the 3rd time these two have met this season with each holding a win in a previous match. Taylor’s win over Stubbs the previous weekend was in the finals to take 1st in the Upper Iowa Conference. Taylor ultimately lost the match in a close 1-2 decision, but came back to win 8-4 over Brady Wilkinson of Sumner-Fredericksburg to take 2nd place.

Taylor will move on to District 6 competition next weekend at Starmont.

Class 1A-Sectional 3

Ali Gerbracht, a 106 pound freshman from AGWSR went 2-1 for the day. Gerbracht recorded a fall over Katie Julius of St. Edmond before losing a 2-4 decision to Keaton Wilson of Belmond-Klemme. Gerbracht went on to pin Jacob Graham of Eagle Grove to take 3rd place in the Sectional, just falling short of continuing on to Districts.

Class 2A-Sectional 11

Alaina Sunlin, a freshman from Monticello, went 3-1 with three falls capturing 2nd place for the day at 106 pounds. In her opening round, Sunlin picked up a pin over Adam Schmit of Beckman Catholic. Class 1A & Class 2A Regional Duals

Felicity Taylor and Ciana Sonberg will likely wrestle Tuesday in the Regional Duals. South Winneshiek qualified for the 1A Regional Duals scheduled to take place at Don Bosco while Charles City qualified for the 2A Regional Duals scheduled for Denver-Tripoli.

To qualify for Regional Duals, both South Winneshiek and Charles City took 2nd place at Sectionals.

There are still plenty of opportunities left to support our female wrestlers before the season ends. All three classes will be back in action this weekend and we will be sure to bring you timely updates as they happen!
