It looks like Northern Iowa has gotten its first verbal commitment in the class of 2017 as Union wrestler Derek Holschlag announced on Twitter that he will enroll in Cedar Falls next season. Holschlag is a three-time state medalist for Union and will join his brother Jacob on the team.
“I picked UNI because I considered it home,” Holschlag told IA Wrestle, “Not only because my brother is going there, but the coaching staff and team is the best in the nation! They also have a very good biology program which is what I plan to major in.”
Holschlag told IA Wrestle he picked the Panthers over Grand View and SMSU. When asked where Holschlag plans to wrestle in the future he answered, “138 this season and (we) have no clue where I will be at (in college).”
In addition to joining his brother on the roster next season, Holschlag will also be reunited with another former teammate, Max Thomsen. Additional accomplishments include a top finishes at the Conflict at Carver, Postseason Folkstyle nationals, and Dominate in the Dells.
