Not the start the Cyclones were looking for when they opened their two dual road trip with a 28-9 loss to the Oklahoma Sooners. The loss moved Iowa State to 7-4 on the season, and they are now 1-1 in Big 12 duals.

Starting off the dual the Cyclones dropped the first four matches, putting them in a 16-0 hole early that would prove too much to overcome. Returning NCAA champion Cody Brewer downed Earl Hall 12-4 in the match’s highlight bout at 133, and Davion Jeffries picked up a second period fall over Gabe Moreno, which was the first of two upsets on the night.

Renaldo Rodriguez-Spencer was the first Iowa State wrestler to put points on the board when he defeated Brock Wingbermuehle 10-8 at 157 pounds. Tanner Weatherman was able to follow with a 6-2 upset over Clark Glass to cut the Oklahoma lead to 16-6.

Marcus Harrington picked up the final win for the Cyclones when he won 3-2 against Brad Johnson at 197 pounds.

Iowa State will need to rebound quickly, as they will now head to Stillwater on Sunday for a meeting with the top five ranked Oklahoma State program. The Cyclones will have their work cut out for them, with Earl Hall being the only wrestler favored in his match against the Cowboys.
