As the saying goes: The rich get richer.
History was made for both Grand View and Wartburg, as both programs ran their consecutive national dual titles to five and six years in a row respectively – both teams utterly dominating the field.

Wartburg’s dominance was brilliant in particular as they started the tournament shutting out Augustana 38-0 followed by a 37-0 shutout against SUNY-Cortland. Wartburg surrendered their first points on the weekend against Roger Williams University as #2 ranked David Welch pulled an 8-6 upset over #1 Gerard Roman as the lone blemish leading into the finals. Wartburg remained rather dominant only losing two contested bouts in the finals against Wabash (the Knights forfeited 184 pounds), with their final dual score a 28-12 win. Overall Wartburg was 36-4, with 20 of those matches in bonus point victories for the Knights.
Grand View started out fairly similar to Wartburg, getting a 55-0 opening round win over Missouri Baptist, followed by a 54-3 win over Great Falls. Campbellsville took the second match of the weekend against the Vikings in the semifinals, but Grand View came out on top 37-2, and Grand View then defeated #2 Indiana Tech 33-15 in the finals.
Iowa’s junior college ranks were particularly strong this weekend – led by team runner-up Ellsworth Community College. Ellsworth lost their dual with Clackamas on criteria 18-18. Also finishing top eight in the JUCO bracket was Iowa Central in fourth, Iowa Lakes in fifth, and Iowa Western in seventh.
Upper Iowa, Iowa’s lone Division II program finished fifth in their bracket.
