This weekend at Cedar Rapids Kennedy High School some of eastern Iowa’s top talent will come into town for six rounds of duals. The field will feature five ranked (tournament) teams, including 1A’s #1 ranked Alburnett, who feature nine wrestlers ranked in 1A. A total of 34 wrestlers are ranked among the ten teams and we will highlight some of the top battles (assuming no weight shifting).
The very first round of competition will bring us Cedar Rapids Kennedy vs Prairie and with that #1 ranked Sam Uthoff (Prairie) will test his top spot against #2 Nolan Hromidko (Kennedy) in a battle at 132. The dual also features a top ten match at 195 pounds where #5 Taylor Mehmen (Prairie) goes up against #8 Garrett Kubovec (Kennedy).
Iowa City West’s #2 Donovan Doyle will face Mehmen in round three, and Kubovec in round five.
In round three we will have Linn-Mar take on Alburnett and that should give us two top ten battles. #10 AJ Geers (Linn-Mar) will face #1 Conner Shulista (Alburnett) and at 160 pounds we have the potential to see #1 Shea Hartzler (Linn-Mar) take on #1 Bryce Paul (Alburnett).
Iowa City High’s #5 Bear Jones will have a top ten clash with #8 Joey Sullivan of Linn-Mar in round four of Pool B.
Bettendorf’s #1 Jack Wagner had an injury that forced him out of the competition of last week’s Keith Young, but his team finishes Pool A with Cedar Rapids Prairie’s #7 Trenton Wennermark.
