There was a lot going on this weekend, which pushed this to being published Tuesday instead of earlier, but three Iowa high school wrestlers were able to win JJ Classic titles up in Minnesota this past weekend, and an additional four wrestlers finished with runner-up honors.

Justin Portillo won his secons straight JJ Classic title with a 11-3 win over Hser Eh Pwae at 113 pounds. His brother Josh took 6th at 120 pounds by default.

One of the state’s top uncommitted seniors, Colton Clingenpeel needed sudden victory to down Devin Bahr in the 152 pound finals. Clingenpeel also notched a nice win over Glenwood’s Matt Malcom who took third at the weight.

Cayd Lara led the Fort Dodge contingent capturing the 145 pound title 7-6 over Joshua Adams. Teammates Drew Bennett and Triston Lara finished second at 106 and 120 respectivley for the Dodgers.

Jacob Carlson found himself in the finals of yet another preseason tournament, but once again was thwarted; this time Devin FitzPatrick in the 160 pound finals.

Iowa’s other finalist came at 220 pounds, where Forest City’s Alex Paulson finished second at his weight.

Also placing in the top six this weekend was Cedar Rapids Jefferson’s Brenden Baker (3rd -120), Dylan Schuck of Sibley-Ocheyedan (6th at 145), and Iowa State commit Kanen Storr lost a 3-2 decision to Alex Lloyd at 138 pounds.
