Straw and Smith Capture Kaye Young Titles for Iowa State

The Cyclone wrestling team sent nine wrestlers to this year’s Kaye Young Open and they placed five in the finals with two of those wrestlers capturing titles. Former Independence, Iowa standout Chase Straw took home top honors at 157 pounds in his first collegiate competition by picking up a technical fall and a pair of falls on the way to his title. Heavyweight Quean Smith was able to capture his title with a 20-6 major decision over freshman teammate Andrew Stowe in the finals. In addition to those three making the finals for the Cyclones, Christian Lopez made the finals at 141 pounds, and freshman Joe Teague reached the finals at 184.
