Fargo Junior Greco-Roman Session I Results

Team Iowa entered into the Junior Greco-Roman tournament with 37 wrestlers and after today’s first session, 29 of them will go on to wrestle in the night session.

Former lightweight Greco All-Americans Drew and Bryce West (113 and 120), and Brenden Baker (113) are all off to strong starts. Both West brothers were Cadet runner-ups a year ago, and have each won both of their matches by technical fall. Baker has a technical fall, but even more impressive is how he started off the tournament with a six second fall.

Ryan Leisure (126) who was also a Cadet All-American in 2014 has won two dominating matches 13-1 and 10-0 so far.

Southeast Polk’s Aaron Meyer (138) has been dubbed a contender of his weight in Greco is off to a fast 3-0 start with three technical falls.

At 152 pounds, Iowa has four wrestlers undefeated and are led by 2014 Junior Greco All-American Chase Straw. Joining Straw is Colton Clingenpeel, Matthew Malcom, and Dan Kelly.

Both Salvator Arzani and Jake Juhl remain undefeated at 170 pounds for Iowa, each with a pair of wins. Deion Clayborne (182) and Carter Isley (285) each notched decisions at their weights.

Neither Cameron Tolander (182), nor Donovan Doyle (195) have wrestled a match yet, as both received first round byes.

Juniors will be back on the mat at 5:00 PM following the conslusion of the medal matches for the Cadets, which starts at 2:00.
