Not only is Team Iowa (which is full of wrestlers who will be wrestling in college) having a successful week at the Disney Duals so far, but so are a pair of Hawkeye Recruits that are each competing for Team Young Guns Black.
Top 2015 recruit Michael Kemerer is now 7-0 at 152 pounds after the first pool with one of those wins coming by forfeit. In his other six matches Kemerer managed to get all of his wins to come in the form of match ending bonus victories. Kaleb Young (160) was equally as dominant, as he too won all of his matches by either fall or technical fall.
Kemerer opened things up with a second period fall in what would be a 74-0 crushing of Valley Boyz. Young followed his future teammate with a 17-2 technical fall. In their second round matches it was Kemerer that won 17-2 over the Ohio Storm, while Young received a forfeit.
In the third round Kemerer received a forfeit, while Young secured a fall for the Young Guns in 3:01. In the last dual in yesterday’s action Kemerer needed just a few seconds in the second period to get his fall at 2:12, while Young racked up the points winning 19-2 against the Nebraska White team.
To start off today, Kemerer won by technical fall 18-2, not to be outdone, Young won his match 18-1. Round six against Team Colorado both wrestlers picked up falls. Kemerer earned his at the 3:23 mark, while Young’s came in the first at 1:43. In their seventh and final match of the opening pool round, Kemerer won 17-2 against his Beachboys opponent, and Young earned yet another first period fall at 1:18.
The Young Guns team is in all likelihood considered one of the favorites (if not the favorite) at the Duals, having captured the NHSCA National Duals team title a month ago.
