Last week Iowa State picked up solid recruit out of Independence high school in Chase Straw. Checking in at #16 in WIN Magazine’s 152 rankings, Straw is looking to help Coach Kevin Jackson build Iowa State back to where it used to be, a national contender. Straw comes to Iowa State a multiple state place winner already and he picked up Fargo All-American honors (8th in Greco) this past summer for Team Iowa. We got to know a little bit more about Chase:
What other schools were you considering?
Iowa and Minnesota.
What weight are you planning on wrestling in college?
157
Is there a wrestler or coach in particular you are excited to work out with at Iowa State?
Trent Paulson
You have come close to your goal on a couple of occasions by placing third each of the last two seasons at the state tournament, what is motivating you to finish on top this year?
It’s the last time I’ll get the chance to [win a title], and I just hate to lose.
Is there anyone you would like to thank?
My family for coming to all my tournaments and supporting me, and the whole Independence wrestling community.
Anything else you want the Cyclone nation to know about you?
I’m excited to wrestle for Iowa State and can’t wait to see what the future brings as a Cyclone!
