A big friend of IA Wrestle, Scott Casber, was able to get Iowa State’s head coach Kevin Jackson to take some time out of his busy schedule to talk about the new coaches he has added and the upcoming season.
The interview starts out with Jackson talking about the addition of (Trent) Paulson and Escobedo to the coaching staff. Jackson feels that Escobedo has a great shot at representing Team USA in the future, but has been really impressed by how quickly Escobedo has taken to the coaching aspect of being in the room. Since Iowa State has lost their former primary lightweight coach to a head coaching gig, hearing Jackson confident in how well Escobedo has transitioned into “coach” is great news. With Larson, Hall, Meeks, and Moreno all underclassmen lightweights, they have a ton of room to grow and get better, and hopefully Escobedo can get them where they need to be.
Jackson also talks about the incoming recruits, and considering fans haven’t been able to see much of these guys (especially the out of state recruits) since they had their state tournaments, hearing any news on them is good news.
Take a listen to Scott’s interview with coach Jackson, it’s worth the 20 minutes. Also, make sure you tune it to Casber’s weekly show, Takedown radio, which airs Saturday’s 9:00-11:00 AM on 1460 AM (iHeartRADIO). It’s worth noting that our own Tony Hager is a co-host, and their guest schedule is always loaded with the biggest names in wrestling. Among the guest list for tomorrow Purdue coach Tyrel Todd and Illinois head coach, and former Hawkeye Jim Heffernan.
