Five Iowa wrestlers had their final spots on the podium decided this afternoon as the medal round commenced action around 2:00 PM. Starting Team Iowa off was Noah Fye at 100. I was thoroughly impressed by his effort in the place winning match as he won by tech fall to finish 7th. Iowa hit a bit of rough patch from there, starting with Bryce West, who finished 4th at 113. West lost his match by a score of 4-3, and he was constantly attacking and getting in on his shots, so he can’t go home disappointed. Colton Clingenpeel also finished 4th (138), and never really got going. He looked pretty getting to Bahr’s legs a couple times, but in the end he couldn’t convert and gave up too many exposure points.
Anthony Sherry had a tough match where he placed 6th at 152. He led for a while, and then made a late comeback, but in the end his opponent was able to hold on to for the win. That left Iowa’s lone Cadet finalist, Gannon Gremmel (220), who finally ended Iowa’s Cadet national title drought with a good old fashion 8-7 win.
