Junior Freestyle Results Session I

Much like the Cadets, we see that the participation by team Iowa explodes for the freestyle tournament, with 46 Iowans wrestling in the first session, and 46 of them wrestling this afternoon. Of that group, 26 of them emerged unblemished by the first round.

Among the recruits competing, Iowa has Logan Ryan (138), Seth Gross (138), Burke Paddock (170), Mitch Bowman (182), Cash Wilcke (182), and Lance Evans (220) who all remain alive on the front side. You may remember from the other day, but Paddock won a Greco national title at 160, so he is up a weight class for this competition.

Iowa State has Colston DiBlasi and Renaldo Rodriguez-Spencer (152), Logan Breitenbach (160), and Marcus Harrington (220) both remain in contention. Spencer who a Greco national title at 145, and it up competing at 152 for freestyle.

UNI has in state Max Thomsen (138) and Bryce Steiert (160), and out of state Adarios Jones (HWT) competing. Jones is competing in the freestyle competition, just days after finishing runner up to Sam Stoll for the Greco title.

If you didn’t notice, there are a couple brackets that look like they could get interesting. After seeing yesterday’s match of future Panther Jones vs. future Hawkeye Stoll, it’s got me hoping for a Hawkeye vs. Hawkeye match up like Ryan vs. Gross at 138, Bowman vs. Wilcke at 182. A friendly Lance Evans (Iowa) vs. Harrington (ISU) at 220 also could be fun. Finally, how about uncommitted Fredy Stroker taking on Max Thomsen (UNI) at 145. That’s just a few of the matches that could be really fun to watch.
