After a solid showing by the Panthers competing in the Freshman division, the UNI starting lineup finished things off at the Finn Grinaker in Minnesota claiming seven of the ten titles, and placing nine wrestlers into the finals of the tournament.

One of the champions for UNI was 2014 All-American Dylan Peters who needed to win just two matches on the day to claim the 125 pound title, but his first win made history.  Just 31 seconds into the third period Peters was able to lock up a fall over St. Cloud State’s Tanner Johnshoy for the 31st fall in his career. Peters started the season among the top ten in career falls in UNI history and through the first few weeks of the season had already moved into the top seven. Fall #31 moves Peters ahead of both Dion Cobb and Dan Kjeldgaard, and into a tie for sixth with former teammate (in high school and college actually) Levi Wolfensperger. He now trails the fifth spot by six falls – which is held by former Anamosa standout Moza Fay.

Also claiming titles for the Panthers was Josh Alber at 133 pounds, Trevor Jauch at 141, Gunnar Wolfensperger at 149, Bryce Steiert at 157, and Kyle Lux at 174. Alber won two matches by major decision to earn his title. Jauch’s toughest match came against teammate Jake Koethe, who wound up taking third in the bracket. Steiert won his bracket by defeating fellow 2015 top 100 recruit Andrew Fogarty of North Dakota State. Lux pinned teammate Drew Foster in the finals of the 174 bracket. At heavyweight Blaize Cabell and JJ Everard opted not to compete against each other to be co-champions.

Former Iowa prep Cordell Eaton of North Dakota State opted to enter the open division as opposed to the freshman bracket, and he was rewarded with a third place finial 197 pounds.
