A couple Iowa schools headed north this weekend to the Auggie-Adidas Open, which is held at reigning Division III champion Augsburg College in Minnesota. It was there that Central College, Luther, and Upper Iowa combined to claim 11 of the gold division finalist including a number of champions for each team.
For the Upper Iowa Peacocks the managed to bring home titles at both 133 and 141 and picked up an additional three finalists. Lincoln Monroe and Mitch Funk were co-champions at the 133 and freshman Jordan Roths brought home the 141 pound title. Damian Penichet fell to Luther’s Dakota Gray in the finals at 149 and teammate Zak Benitz also lost to a D3 wrestler from Iowa, Ryan Vandall of Central, at 165 pounds. Colbey Vance was the other finalist for Upper Iowa reaching the 174 pound finals.
In addition to Vandall, Central crowned co-champions at 125 where twin brother AJ and CJ Pestano each reached the finals. Justin Kreiter joined teammate Gray in the finals for Luther, but took second at 184.
