So far we have put out some high quality lightweight matches, and judging from this matchup, that’s a trend that isn’t stopping anytime soon. For our next match, we take a look at one of Iowa’s (and the nation’s) top lightweight prospects in the 2016 class going up against one of Pennsylvania’s toughest lightweights.

Brock Rathbun (SR)
School
: Center Point
College: Iowa, UNI, Missouri, and Virginia Tech
Credentials: Three-time Iowa state finalist and two-time Iowa state champion.

Max Murin (JR)
School: Central Cambria, Pennsylvania
Credentials: Murin is a Fargo All-American losing to Alex Thomsen this past summer, but was also a Pennsylvania state champion.

This is an intriguing match to look at with despite Murin not being ranked, he definitely has a strong resume and is most likely sitting just outside the rankings. It’s clear that not just anyone can win a Pennsylvania state title, so the talent is there. On the other side of the match up, Rathbun is looking to join an impressive three-timers club in the state of Iowa. Rathbun is a handful, especially in folkstyle and with the added pushout rule we could see a great match between these two.

Rathbun on Murin: “I think wrestling Murin will be exciting. Having a state champ from Pennsylvania come down to wrestle will make things even bigger. I’m excited!”

Murin on Rathbun: “Rathbun is a good wrestler and I am really pumped to wrestle him.”

Rathbun on the Night of Conflict: “I think it’s a great experience since I will be college next year and getting good competition will really show me what wrestling on a big stage is all about!”

Murin on the Night of Conflict: “I am super excited and honored to be able to wrestle in such a great environment.”
