Continuing with our early look at the Iowa High School wrestling landscape, we’ll take a look at what the top 2A teams have returning.

Class 2A has five returning State Champions, 61 returning Place Winners, and 122 Qualifiers from 2019.

Union is returning all their points from last season’s State Tournament and is at the top of the list for returning points. All seven of their qualifiers are back, including their two finalists, Adam Ahrendsen and state champion Jack Thomsen.

Just behind Union, is another team returning all their points from 2019, with two returning finalists, in Centerville. In 2019, Centerville brought three wrestlers to state and all three finished in the top six in their weight classes. This includes state finalist Nathan Genobana and State Champion Matthew Lewis, who will be looking to add a third State title to his resume in 2020.

The 2019 2A state champions, West Delaware is returning five state place-winners, and will be in the hunt in this year as well. They lose two medal winners from last year’s squad, but the team is still very young and will continue to be a force over the next few years.
