Iowa got an early jump on their 2020 recruiting class this fall with four recruits already verbally committed to the program. Despite their head start it appears that the Hawkeyes are far from finished in their efforts to fill out their 2020 class as California blue chip recruit tweeted a graphic he received from the program earlier today.
The recruit is the #6 ranked Jesse Vasquez of Excelsior high school. In a brief interview with IAwrestle Vasquez stated that he has mutual interest with the Hawkeye program. Vasquez commented he would like to keep his school list private though he has also tweeted graphics from other top programs Ohio State and Cornell.
One of the things that Vasquez mentioned interests him in the Iowa program is their tradition.
“The one thing in particular that I admire about Iowa is that they have an incredibly successful historical background in producing champions in wrestling, and still do to this very day.” said Vasquez, who then went on to mention that wrestling won’t be the only factor in his ultimate decision, “Success in wrestling is not my only endeavor in college and therefore I’m not choosing a college only based on their wrestling program. I’m looking for a college that can support all of the other dimensions of college that I need.”
Vasquez is projected as a 149 pound recruit on the college level and is already a consensus top five wrestler at his weight across the national publications. Should he pick the Hawkeyes Vasquez would join an already impressive class that features Minnesota prep Patrick Kennedy, Iowa natives Cullan and Colby Schriever, and Arizona standout Jesse Ybarra. Of that group Kennedy, Ybarra and Cullan Schriever all rate as a top 20 recruit in the nation according to The Open Mat’s rankings.
