Wartburg tops #1 Augsburg in Battle of the Burgs

In a battle of Division 3 power programs last night Wartburg claimed the annual Battle of the Burgs for the 8th straight year. The Knights upset No. 1 Augsburg on tiebreakers, 16-15, to retain the Svens-Milboy traveling trophy belt.

The dual started at 125 pounds and Wartburg appeared to be in a little trouble when #1 Brock Rathbun dropped a rematch of the 2018 National championship bout to Sam Bennyhoff 7-4.

Brady Fritz followed with a big win at 141 pounds to tighten the dual at 3-6.

The match of the night came at 157 where  Cross Cannone, the defending National Champion at 149, defeated Ryan Epps, the defending National Champion at 157.

The Knights were still trailing 15-12 heading into heavyweight. Then Bowen Wileman of Wartburg won a 6-0 decision over Ethan Hofacker of Augsburg, tying the match at 15-15.

Wartburg won the criteria on total match points, 47-43
