Iowa State improves their record to 3-1 on the season with a 29-7 win over North Dakota State. The dual was tied after two matches, but the Cyclones regained the lead at 174 pounds and never looked back.
Wednesday’s dual started at 157 pounds. Chase Straw got the Cyclones on the board right out of the gate, with a major decision. Straw racked up four back points in the second period, and dominated the match.
Next up, Logan Schumacher at 165 pounds, making his collegiate debut. He was in deep on Andrew Fogarty in the first, but couldn’t quite finish. Logan drops his match, and the Bison even the score.
Marcus Coleman scored a takedown in the first forty seconds and added two more in the first period. He had to work for it after De La Riva battled back in the second period with an escape and a takedown. The third period saw Coleman score a takedown, but a late reversal wasn’t enough for the Bison. Coleman took the match 8-7.
At 184 pounds, Sammy Colbray racked up three takedowns in the first period. Things cooled off from there. However, late in the third, Colbray added another takedown. More short time scoring…Love it!
Willie is back at 197 pounds! Big fall on the edge with seven seconds left in the first period for Mr. Miklus! What a way to go into intermission, Cyclones lead 16-4.
Gremmel and Metz each had takedown in the first period; Metz’s came first. The pace slowed in the second after a quick escape by Gremmel. Gannon got two back points in the third. Solid performance tonight for Gannon Gremmel.
After a scoreless first period at 125 pounds, Fleetwood escaped quickly to start the second. Nice reversal for Mackall in the third, then Fleetwood escapes. We’re heading to overtime. Fleetwood secures the takedown for the win. Mackall was the aggressor the entire match, unfortunate.
Gomez scored an early takedown and two back points in the first period. Sykora got four back points on a tilt to take a 5-4 lead to the third period. Sykora scored an escape early in the third, after choosing down to start the period. Takedown Gomez, tied 6-6. Back to back matches headed to overtime. Gomez takes it with a takedown ten seconds into sudden victory!
Ryan Leisure gets the go at 141 pounds. He takes on Sawyer Degen, Jarrett’s younger brother. Action packed first period comes to a close with a 6-4 lead for Leisure. Late reversal for Ryan in the second, but Sawyer escapes. Weird exchange in the third, Coach Dresser challenged a takedown that wasn’t called, while doing so Leisure got a sure takedown right after the brick was thrown before stoppage of the match; no takedown for either.
Degen scores two takedowns in the first to jump out to a 4-1 lead at 149 pounds. Jarrett dominates the rest of the way racking up seven takedowns, earning a major decision.
