Last weekend in Kansas City saw several Iowa natives place at the prestigious preseason tournament the Fall Brawl. No Iowan put in a better performance than Des Moines East prep Deville Dentis, who brought home the title at 152 pounds.

“It was practice for the season.” Dentis said in an interview with Zebulin Miller shortly after winning his title, “Just seeing where I got over the summer, how much better I got.

“I don’t like to put pressure on myself. I like to go out and have fun. Wrestling is something you have to take it serious, but there are times to take it serious and there are times to have fun with it. Me, I like to have fun with (wrestling).”

Dentis made a big leap last season where he reached the state finals at 138 pounds. Following the season Dentis wound up at #32 in the Fab 50 rankings. That jump has led to several colleges checking in on the Des Moines standout, though the soon-to-be senior still doesn’t have plans on where he will end up.

“I don’t really know where I am going to go yet. I have talked to some schools, but I am just going to wait and see who gives the best offer.”
Representing the Viking Wrestling Club, which is ran by former Iowa prep standout TJ Moen, Dentis had some good things to say about his club in the interview with Miller.

“It’s great.” Dentis said of the club he wrestles for, Viking Wrestling Club, “Seven-time national champions. It’s a Championship Lifestyle. TJ (Moen) runs a great club. We practice three days a week. It’s great.”
