Former Clear Lake high school and University of Northern Iowa wrestler Joe Colon is set to wrestle in the 2018 World Championships in Budapest this Saturday and Sunday at 61 kg/134 lbs.

Colon currently lives in California where he trains for Valley RTC and is a volunteer assistant coach for Fresno State University. Colon was a 2010 NJCAA national champion for Iowa Central and finished third in the 2014 NCAA Championships for Northern Iowa.

Colon has had a big year winning a gold medal at the 2018 Pan American Championships, a Dave Schultz Memorial Championship, a silver medal at the Alexander Medved International in Belarus and bronze at the Ziolkowski Memorial in Poland.

Joe appears to have a good draw overall. 2017 World silver medalist Gadzhimurad Rashidov of Russia and 2016 World silver medalist Beka Lomtadze of Georgia are on the opposite side of the bracket.

He does have two-time World bronze medalist Yowlys Bonne Rodriguez of Cuba and #1 UWW ranked Abbos Rakhmonov of Uzbekistan on his side of the bracket but they are both in the top quarter.

Below is the competition schedule for this weekend along with where you can watch. ALL TIMES BELOW ARE EASTERN TIME ZONE.
