One of the biggest instate recruits for the class of 2018 is off the board as West Des Moines – Valley’s Joel Shapiro has committed to Iowa State. Shapiro made the announcement on Twitter:

“After spending time with coaches Dresser, Zadick, St. John and Metcalf I know they will help me reach my wrestling goals and I decided that I want to be a part of Iowa State wrestling.” Shapiro told IAwrestle, “From the first time at RTC practice I could feel the energy that were they were bringing and I am excited to be able to contribute to #CyclONEnation.”

Ranked #43 overall in the class of 2018, Shapiro is a big addition for new Iowa State head coach Kevin Dresser and comes at a need weight. Projecting at 184 pounds, Shapiro is the biggest addition by Dresser since being hired in February. Shapiro was #8 in IAwrestle’s Fab 50 rankings after adding a Fargo All-American honor and 2017 state title to his resume this past year.

Shapiro joins a 2018 class that includes Weston DiBlasi (Missouri) and Cayd Lara (Fort Dodge). He selected Iowa State over Campbell, Air Force, North Dakota State, and Northern Iowa.
