Doug Scwhab and Company have dipped into Illinois for their latest commit picking up Illinois state champion, Pat Schoenfelder from Antioch High School. Schoenfelder is a three-time Illinois state place winner and finished his high school career 175-26.

“I grew up being an Iowa Hawkeye fan and after meeting with coach Schwab my senior year I knew Cedar Falls was the place for me. I was looking for a family and this felt like home.” Schoenfelder said.

The Antioch senior has focused on getting better everyday by setting small goals ever since finishing fourth as a sophomore and runner-up his junior year.

“My losses taught me to set goals, goals that I didn’t have before. I wanted to win so much more and every year I was able to improve. Now I’m looking for bigger and better goals and with the same determination the goals will be fulfilled at Northern Iowa.”

Schoenfelder was considering Virginia and Oregon State and is projected at 157 pounds for the Panthers.

Wrestling isn’t his only standout sport. Schoenfelder credits cross country and track for his success on the mat and will look to qualify this season in the 4×400.

“I’ll wrestle a little freestyle after track but track is what helps me stay in shape in the off-season. After track I’ll be looking forward to working with Max Thomsen. His hard nosed attitude and style fits my style.” Schoenfelder said on getting to Cedar Falls.
