IAwrestle: First question is related to what we asked last year, was a honey bun the first thing you wanted to eat when you finished this season, or have you moved on to something else?

Alex Thomsen: A honey bun was actually not on the craving list this year! I moved to Kit Kats; something with a little more chocolate.

What was the feeling like as you wrestled for your third title? You said you felt noticeably more comfortable in your second trip to the state tournament, was that the case once again?

When I went out there, I felt very relaxed and was confident in my technique and speed to win that title. As I was warming up in the back I felt fast and all of my shots were crisp and clean, which was exactly what I needed to win. When I got out there I looked around and took it all in, and it definitely wasn’t as nerve racking as the first year. I was honestly anxious to start wrestling, with no nerves running through me at all.

You also had the opportunity to wrestle at state with your brother this year. What was that experience like for you?

Overall, the whole year with him was a blast. We were workout partners every single day, and getting to see him improve from the start to the finish was awesome! It was cool seeing him wrestle his way through his bracket to a solid finish on the podium, and he showed a lot of guts cutting down to 120 pounds and getting the right mentality to go out and battle every single match.

What does your summer schedule look like? What events will you be competing at and what weights do you think we will see you at?

My summer schedule has two to three main tournaments, such as UWW World Team Trials and Fargo, and I will be competing at 55 kg (121 pounds) and I think 120 pounds at Fargo.

You spent some time at the Olympic Training Center at a Greco-Roman camp last summer. Will you be wrestling both Greco and Freestyle this summer?

Yes, I will be competing in both styles, but I am only going Freestyle for World Team Trials. I am highly sure that I will be wrestling both styles at Fargo.

As you head into you wrap up your junior season and head into your final year of high school have you done any thinking about what schools you may be visiting?

I have some schools in mind, but as of right now I am keeping those and this recruiting process private until I decide to make an announcement!
