Dowling Catholic’s Senior Jacob Zachary has withdrawn from the 2017 IAHSAA State Wrestling Tournament due to personal reasons per head coach Kevin Stanley.

Zachary has been ranked top three throughout the season but has rarely seen the mat. This summer he finished second at USA Junior Freestyle State with a significant win over returning state champion Wyatt Wriedt in :16. Zachary went 0-2 last season but lost to the fourth and fifth place finishers.

Zachary will now be switching his focus to football where he has had great success. During his time at Dowling he has played running back and was part of the four-time state chamionship team. He is taking his talents to the University of South Dakota.

Who benefitted from his withdraw?

Newton gained their lone qualifier, freshman Gage Linahon. Linahon has a 10-6 season record and will face Jacob Melton from Boone first round.
