The NWCA Multi-Divisional National Duals return Friday at 9 a.m. and the finals will begin at 1 p.m. Seven Iowa teams are still competing in the tournament. Here is a quick recap of day one in Indiana.
NJCAA: Three of four Iowa NJCAA teams are still alive, following the first day of competition at the National Duals. Iowa Central Community College and Ellsworth Community College are wrestling on the front side of the bracket, with Ellsworth facing Northeastern Oklahoma A&M on Friday at 11 a.m. Iowa Central will take on Clackamas Community College on Friday at 11 a.m. Wrestling on the back side of the bracket, Iowa Western will face Northwest College on Friday at 9 a.m. Iowa Lakes exits the tournament following losses to Harper College and Iowa Western by scores of 25-22 and 31-16 respectively.
NAIA: The Grand View Vikings stay alive in the NWCA Multi-Divisional National duals following a 49-3 defeat of Doane and a 30-9 defeat over Campbellsville. The Vikings will take on Baker in a semifinal match at 11 a.m. Baker reaches the semifinals after defeating Oklahoma City and Southern Oregon. Following a potential win, the Vikings would face the winner of Life University/Indiana Tech in the finals at 2 p.m.
DIII: Two programs continue to represent the state of Iowa in the DIII bracket at the National Duals. Wartburg College continues on the path to their 11th NWCA National Duals title. Following a first round bye, the Knights defeated Wheaton and Baldwin Wallace by scores of 37-2 and 35-3, respectively. Wartburg will face Johnson & Wales (RI) in the semifinals at 11 a.m. Coe College enters the second day of the National Duals on the consolation side of the bracket. The Kohawks entered the tournament with a bye, followed by a 20-13 loss to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. In their first consolation match, Coe defeated Augustana by a score of 39-10. The Kohawks will begin the second day of competition facing Wabash at 9 a.m.
DII: The Upper Iowa University Peacocks rallied back to a final eight finish following a first round loss to UW-Parkside. The Peacocks defeated Tiffin by a score of 24-15, followed by a 21-12 win over Maryville University. Upper Iowa will face McKendree University at 9 a.m. With a win, the Peacocks will wrestle the winner of Nebraska-Kearney/Mercyhurst for fifth place. The Peacocks placed fifth in 2016.
