The Cyclones have beefed up their 2017 recruiting class by landing another top 50 recruit as Maryland prep Ethan Smith announced on Twitter that he is headed to Iowa State.
A top three medalist at both the Super 32 and FloNationals this year, Smith is ranked #8 overall at 170 pounds for Sparrows Point in Maryland.
“The thing that sold.me the most on Iowa State was the sense of family,” Smith told IAwrestle, “Everyone is so close and caring of the people around them. I was only there a short period of time and the coaching staff won me over. The Paulson brothers and Escebedo are the coolest guys there is and obviously Coach Jackson is a freaking legend. The brotherhood the team has is second to none and I couldn’t help but wanna be a part of something big.”
Smith has big aspirations for his final season before enrolling at Iowa State, “I want to keep training and finish the season with a bang by winning another state title. I plan on hopefully competing at FloNationals and finally getting that belt.”
This is the fourth top 50 recruit in the class of 2017, with Smith joining #10 Austin Gomez, #12 Jarod Verkleeren, and #30 Jake Allar. The Cyclones also have in-state commitments from Marcus Coleman and Ryan Leisure. Smith projects at 174 pounds.
