Cedar Rapids native Brandon O’Brien competed at the 2016 Pan American Schoolboy championships in Medellin, Colombia this weekend and Team USA will be returning home with nine medals in Men’s freestyle including an outstanding six of those medals being golden. Winning one of those medals with Iowa native Brandon O’Brien, who competed at 32 kg (70.5 lbs).

O’Brien opened his tournament with a technical fall over his opponent from Venezuela, and followed that win with a fall against a wrestler from Colombia. From there O’Brien went on to finish off the field by winning the gold medal.

In addition to six champions Carter Young (Bixby, Oklahoma) was named the tournament’s outstanding wrestler. Wresting continues today with the Women’s freestyle competition.
