Trevor Jauch_1744Trevor Jauch did something that quite a few wrestlers do this past weekend: he won two matches.

Something that most wrestlers don’t do though, is win two matches at two different weight classes. And they were both the first matches of their respective duals.

Jauch bumped up to 149 pounds for UNI’s dual against Virginia Tech last Friday night. UNI dropped the dual, 19-15, to the #12 Hokies but Jauch got his first win at the new weight. He came right out with a go-by against NCAA qualifier Sal Mastriani for takedown and didn’t let Mastriani back into the match. He won going away, scoring back points as time expired 10-3.

At 141 pounds on Sunday we were expecting to see Jake Koethe, the 18th ranked wrestler go up against Old Dominion’s #9 ranked Chris Mecate. Jauch took a different tact with this match, going scoreless in the first period, but he trailed 3-2 after the second period. In the third he chose to start neutral with Mecate and hit a single leg to get a takedown in the closing seconds of the match. He won with riding time 5-3. It was Jauch’s second win over a top-20 opponent this season. This win boosted his overall record to 14-6, and he is 2-1 against MAC competition.

Jauch joins 157 pounder Bryce Steiert as the only two MAC wrestlers of the week from UNI so far this year. You can read UNI’s full release here.
