Get to know Tristan Johnson!

What are your goals heading into your senior season?

My main goal is to win state, and try to go undefeated.

How much do you think wrestling Freestyle and Greco over the summer has helped you improve?

It definitely has had the biggest impact on my improvement. It keeps you working hard year round, it teaches you how to stay in a good position at all times, and not to give up easy points.

Do you play any other sports in high school? Have you always wanted to wrestle in college?

I wrestled all four years, and played football every year except for my junior year. I had not always wanted to wrestle in college, it wasn’t really until this summer that I had decided I wanted to wrestle in college.

What other schools did you consider before choosing Iowa?

The other main schools I liked were Wartburg and Iowa State.

What was it about the opportunity to wrestle at Iowa that made this the right choice for you?

It just felt like the place for me, it seems style of wrestling taught at Iowa fits me well. They also have an extremely good academic program. I really like the wrestling related facilities, and they have a nice campus.

What do you like to do when you are away from the wrestling mat?

When I have the time, I like to go fishing or go for a motorcycle ride.

What do you want Iowa fans to know about you?

I am a person who won’t settle for anything less than my goals. If I set a goal I am going to do anything and everything it takes to reach it.
