Metcalf's DrawBrent Metcalf has received his draw for his fourth World Championships and it’s a rather interesting one to say the least. To start out Metcalf will have Lukacs of Hungary in the first round. In the second round Metcalf could face the #6 ranked Mustafa Kaya of Turkey, which would be the second year in a row that Metcalf would see Kaya in the second round (remember this is a random draw tournament). Metcalf will have his chance of redemption and would then get a chance to most likely face Iran’s Sayed Mohammadi – who hold’s the World’s #1 ranking currently.

I will be honest, if Metcalf wants to win a World medal, these are the types of guys he will have to beat, but as an observer it can still be noted that it is really unfortunate that Metcalf has two top six ranked wrestlers that he could face before he even reaches the quarterfinals. The fact that Kaya was the wrestler that eliminated Metcalf in 2014, and Mohammadi being the #1 ranked guy just seems like a cruel injustice.

I finish this post off by saying that even with this tough draw I will remain optimistic in Brent’s path tomorrow. For one, Metcalf has never been the type of wrestler to look at this competition and be frightened by them, nor have we ever seen Metcalf back down from a challenge. The big positive is that if Metcalf does reach the quarterfinals tomorrow, his chances at winning a World medal are going to go through the roof, as he already had to beat the favorite.
