It has been talked about all week that Iowa had two legitimate contenders for Cadet national titles this and so far both Alex Thomsen (120) and Marcus Coleman (160) have answered the call with each punching their tickets to tomorrow afternoon’s finals in exciting fashion.

Thomsen carried a 3-0 lead into the second period of his match with a top ten nationally ranked Max Murin of Pennsylvania, before he was able to get a fall at the 3:49 mark. Tomorrow he will face Nick Ramio of New Jersey for the title.

Coleman has simply been taking care of business so far as he has yet to have a match go the distance. His semifinal match with Ohio’s Victor Marcelli was the first match that he had surrendered an official point in the tournament. His wins prior to that match were three shut out technical falls and two falls. Coleman will also face a New Jersey opponent in the finals in Ryan Karoly.

Aden Reeves will wrestle for third at 106 pounds. After taking a loss in the fourth round, Reeves has now won five straight matches – all of them by technical fall. The last four matches have been an identical 10-0 result. Joining Reeves in wrestling for third is Wyatt Wriedt (285), who took out fellow Iowan Lawson in the consolation quarterfinals, and then Brendan Furman of Pennsylvania in the consolation semifinals – both by fall.

Wrestling for fifth will be Kyle Biscoglia (100) who made it all the way to the semifinals where he fell to Dylan D’emilio of Ohio. At one point in the match, Biscoglia had the nation’s #2 ranked wrestler on the ropes with a 7-2 lead before failing to prevent D’emilio’s comeback. After winning seven straight matches, Ben Sarasin (152) was finally upended in the consolation semifinals and will also wrestle for fifth.

A trio of Iowans will wrestle for seventh tomorrow: Anthony Sherry (170), Garrett Kubovec (195), and Cooper Lawson (285). Both Sherry and Kubovec will take home double All-American honors, and for Sherry it is the second straight year he has done so. Kubovec also wrestled for seventh in Greco earlier this week.

The Cadet finals and medal matches are scheduled to take place tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 PM.
