Last year, Team Iowa didn’t send a Team to the Cadet National Duals, but this year they look to make up for some lost ground taking a talented group of Cadets, which includes nationally ranked wrestlers and a couple state champions.
One of the most talented wrestlers of the bunch is Fort Dodge state champion Brody Teske, who captured the 3A state title at 106 as a freshman. In the spring Teske took 2nd at the NHSCA nationals behind one of the best in the nation, Roman Bravo-Young. Teske is currently ranked 16th by Flowrestling at 113 pounds and will be an anchor in the Team #1 lineup.
Kyle Biscoglia is the only other nationally ranked wrestler in the bunch, going to #14 in Flowrestling latest release of rankings. Entering his freshman year at Waukee, Biscoglia will try to pick up where Teske left off for talented 106 pounders in Iowa.
Marcus Coleman is the only other wrestler on the roster to capture a state title, and he did so by winning the 3A 152 crown. Coleman has proven he has the stuff in Iowa, and now he can take it to a national level.
Team #1 also has state placewinners in Brady Kyner (6th), Cayd Lara (7th), Issac Bartel (8th), and Tucker Morrison (8th). Team #1 also features Nelson Brands of Iowa City West, who despite not qualifying for state as a freshman, held multiple wins against ranked opponents and won a conference title taking out two top ten ranked wrestlers along the way.
Team #2 in freestyle also has an expirenced group of state medalist and they are led by Southeast Polk’s Nathan Lendt who took 3rd this past year in the 3A 113 bracket for the eventual team champions. The next highest medalist is Duncan McCain, who brought home 6th, Gable Fox and Harlan Steffensmeier each took 7th, and Alex Ward took 8th this winter. Team #2 also has state qualifier Kaleb Reeves.
Action will take place starting on Wednesday through Saturday in Pennsylvania. Greco-Roman action will get underway first on Wednesday, with the finals being on Thursday. That means that both of Iowa’s teams will kick off freestyle on Friday, which will wrap up on Saturday. Action can be watched on Flowrestling.
