3x National qualifier and 2x round of 12 wrestler Tanner Weatherman and 2x national qualifier Lelund Weatherspoon have been reported to drop weight classes. Weatherspoon went 2-2 at last years NCAAs while Weatherman was 0-2.Weatherspoon manned the 184 pound weight class last year while Weatherman manned the 174 pound weight class. Both wrestlers were ranked top 15 in the country for most of the season.

While the cut for both wrestlers is not set in stone, Jackson said “Weatherman is going down to 165, which gives him a great chance to become an all-american and be in the hunt. Lelund Weatherspoon down to 174, which allows him to wrestle his true weight class”. Both Weatherman and Weatherspoon competed injured for much of the post season. Competing at lower weight classes will allow them to be bigger physically for the grind of the D1 season.

2x All-American Mike Moreno manned the 165 spot last season, so the cut logically makes sense for the Cyclones lineup. Iowa State loses National champion Kyven Gadson as well and will replace him with Waterloo West prep Marcus Harrington.
