The final qualification tournament for the World Team Trials in June wrapped up today with another eight men have punched their tickets to the event. Phil Keddy led the way for the former Hawkeyes, scoring a tech fall over Panther Wrestling Club member Ryan Loder 12-1 to secure his spot in Madison next month.

Alex Meyer was the only Hawkeye Wrestling Club member to enter into the senior division of the tournament, taking fourth at 86 kg. He lost by tech fall to Austin Trotman from Nebraska.

The Panther Wrestling Club had several members entered in the tournament and were led by Loder, who took second place. Cruse Aarhus ended his day with only one loss as he took third, securing 10-0 tech fall over Joel Timmons. Aarhus actually beat Timmons twice on the day, scoring a pinfall in just 0:24 in his first match of the day.

At 65 kilos PWC members Brett Robbins and Jake Hodges met up on the backside of the bracket, Robbins took an injury default to put Hodges in the third place match, where he would drop a 21-8 tech fall to Cole VanOhlen from the Air Force WCAP (World Class Athlete Program).

Iowa State also had several wrestlers in the field, led at 74 kilos by Logan Molina. Molina started off the day with two tech falls, one over Blake Joiner and the second over Logan Peterson. He would then run into tournament champion Quentin Godley, dropping a 3-2 decision, by far Godley’s closest match of the day. Molina would go on to win two more matches to claim third place over Austin Weigel 3-1.

The champions from each weight are automatically qualified for the World Team Trials in Madison, Wisconsin next month. Here’s a list of those that are previously qualified, including Iowans Tony Ramos, Joe Colon, Matt McDonough, Daniel Dennis, Joey Lazor, Brent Metcalf, Deron Winn, and Jon Reader. There is only one other way for non-qualified wrestlers to enter the Trials and that is to apply for a wildcard from USA Wrestling. Only one wildcard will be admitted to each weight.
