The state of Iowa was two of three in the finals, with Tony Ramos taking home his first “stop sign” (national title) and Brent Metcalf winning his second title against an injured Jordan Oliver. For their efforts they are rewarded with byes to the finals of the World Team Trials and get to sit out of the mini-tournament. That means Ramos and Metcalf will have wrestled three less matches than their opponent for a shot at the World team.

Jake Varner went down in his match against the youngster Kyle Snyder (who is still eligible to wrestle the Junior division by the way) and we saw more of what was concerning of Varner at the Open, he wasn’t really scoring points. That is going to have to change if he wants to knock off Snyder in a best of three finals, especially now that Snyder has confidence and knows he can beat Varner.
