Below is a list of the wrestlers who are committed to a DI Iowa wrestling program. The wrestlers are separated by school (Iowa, UNI, and ISU) and by state in which their tournament is held. I have also included national rankings from Intermat. If not nationally ranked the “*” denotes IA Wrestle’s high school rankings. Taylor Lujan won his 4th GA state title, and there was a lot of positives that came out of the Iowa and Illinois tournaments (among others). Paden Moore was able to keep the UNI recruiting class perfect with his state title in Minnesota, and Markus Simmons added a title to wrap up the ISU recruits to be the fourth recruit to win a title.
Mike Kemerer was finally able to get the job done out east as he captured his first Pennsylvania state title in his fourth attempt. Much like capturing his first Ironman title, this was something that was on the future Hawkeye’s bucket list, so it was great to see his finally get his win. Kemerer had to defeat the #5 nationally ranked Hayden Hidlay in the quarterfinals, and then defeated #4 Patrick Duggan in the finals – in short it was no easy path to win said title. Kaleb Young took fourth in a pretty brutal bracket, losing 13-3 to #2 nationally ranked Joseph in the semifinals, and then lost his consolation finals match in the ultimate tiebreaks.
Justin Mejia continued his quest to join California history as the sophomore captured his second title at 113 with a 1-0 win in the finals. Mejia’s team Clovis also won it’s 5th straight team title, another impressive feat for a state with no separate classes for schools.
This weekend Iowa recruit Alex Marinelli will look to go for his third straight Ohio state title, and wrap recruiting state tournaments for all committed DI recruits.
