For the fifth time this season, a member of the Iowa Hawkeyes has been named the Big Ten conference Wrestler of the Week, as senior 174 wrestler Mike Evans earned the honor with his 3-0 performance at the NWCA National Duals.

Evans led his weekend off with a fall over Tennessee-Chattanooga’s Sean Mappes (4:44) to collect his sixth pin of the year. He followed that with a 3-0 victory over #18 ranked Duke Pickett of Cornell which was the wrestler’s 100th career victory. In the NWCA finals he defeated the #5 ranked John Eblen of Missouri to finish his career in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

A native of Enola, Pennsylvania and is 24-1 on the season, including 9-1 against ranked competition. Evans was part of the #1 ranked 2010 recruiting class. Evans has been a starter in the Iowa lineup all four seasons in his career and is a two-time All-American. This is the first time Evans has earned the weekly conference honor.

Evans is also the third Hawkeye to earn the honor this season joining fellow senior Bobby Telford (Dec. 31 and Feb 10), and Brandon Sorensen (Jan. 13 and Jan. 27). Up next for Mike Evans and the Hawkeyes will be the Big Ten conference championships in Columbus, Ohio.
