AT: Assumption, Davenport
Assumption, Davenport vs. Solon
Wahlert, Dubuque vs. Williamsburg
Solon, Wahlert, and Williamsburg are all pretty solid teams that are flying a bit under the radar, but unfortunately for them they got paired with the defending dual champs and one of this years better teams in 2A. Even with Assumption losing a top wrestler in Finch, they still should come out on top of this regional. They may have their closest meet in the first round with Solon and then will likely face Williamsburg.
FINAL PREDICTION: Assumption over Williamsburg
AT: Central Lyon/George-Little Rock
Central Lyon/George-Little Rock vs. MOC-Floyd Valley, Orange City
Sergeant Bluff-Luton vs. Spencer
This regional is a 2 horse race between Central Lyon and Sergeant Bluff-Luton. Will both of these teams wrestle their full lineups since they will meet again this weekend at districts? This should be a very evenly matched dual with both teams winning at least 5-6 matches. Look for the Central Lyon upper weights to close this dual out.
FINAL PREDICTION: Central Lyon/GLR over Sergeant Bluff
AT: Creston/Orient-Macksburg
Creston/Orient-Macksburg vs. Missouri Valley
Atlantic vs. Winterset
Creston winds up with a pretty decent regional draw here. Atlantic is a good team, but their 12 district qualifiers is a bit inflated by an easier sectional. Look for Creston to make another trip back to state duals to see if they can improve on last years 4th place finish.
FINAL PREDICTION: Creston over Atlantic
AT: Humboldt Semi-Final Round
Clear Lake vs. Perry
Ballard vs. Pocahontas Area
These two teams met in a dual less than 2 weeks ago with Ballard coming out on top 45-28. Clear Lake gives a lot of teams match up problems with their lower weights being so tough and then a little weaker up top. Ballard is pretty solid the whole way through. Look for Ballard to win this dual again, but a lot tighter than the previous meeting.
FINAL PREDICTION: Ballard over Clear Lake
AT: Independence
Independence vs. Vinton-Shellsburg
Mount Vernon vs. Grinnell
Mount Vernon has a very complete dual team. No holes really anywhere in their lineup. They are one of the top 8 2A dual teams in the state. The problem is Independence is a 2A top 4 dual team. Look for Independence to win a fairly close dual over Mount Vernon. They will then move onto state duals very they have an outside shot at knocking off one of the top 3 teams.
FINAL PREDICTION: Independece over Mount Vernon
AT: Mediapolis
Mediapolis vs. Knoxville
Washington vs. Albia
Washington had a nice sectional tournament moving 5 wrestlers on to districts. The team that they could face tonight moved on 10 wrestlers from the same sectional though. Mediapolis should win this regional and move on to state duals where they will have a team that could potentially knock off Assumption and Union.
FINAL PREDICTION: Mediapolis over Washington
AT: Osage
New Hampton vs. Iowa Falls-Alden
Charles City vs. Crestwood, Cresco
The Osage regional is probably the most evenly matched in class 2A. Potentially the best dual team from this regional has already been eliminated with Osage finishing 3rd at sectionals. This was made possible by Max Forsyth of Charles City upsetting the #1 ranked wrestler from Osage. New Hampton beat Crestwood by 2 points earlier in the year, but Charles City owns a 19 point victory over New Hampton.
FINALS PREDICTION: Charles City over New Hampton
AT: Union, LaPorte City
Union, LaPorte City vs. ADM, Adel
Webster City vs. Gilbert
Webster City is another one of those teams having a pretty solid season. Their reward for that is a trip to La Porte City, the home of one of the best teams in class 2A. Union is a very Senior heavy team, so this will be their best chance at a state dual title for a few years. Look for them to be wrestling in the finals next Wednesday night.
FINALS PREDICTION: Union over Webster City
